This fake marriage was supposed to fix my life… Not turn it upside down.

Jacob Stone made me the deal of a lifetime: My hand in marriage to save his reputation… For my granddaddy’s treatment paid in full.

Feelings were never a part of the contract.

But that doesn’t stop my heart from leaping when I see him. I just wish he could see me, too. See me as something other than another business deal.

Now it might be too late.

And I have to figure out how to save my granddaddy… Without the man that I love. Because how can I convince this billionaire the one thing he needs…

Is my heart?

Look Inside!

Chapter 83
Nyla

I step out of the shower, wrapping a towel around my body, the steam still clinging to my skin. The sound of raised voices draws me to the living room, where I'm greeted by a sight that stops me in my tracks.

Kevin stands at the door, his taut, bare ass on full display, facing off against a visibly upset Jacob. My heart races as I take in the scene, the tension palpable in the air.

"Look, man, you need to leave," Kevin says, his tone firm but casual.

Jacob's face contorts with anger. "Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?"

I quickly intervene, not wanting this situation to escalate. "Kevin, go back to the bedroom and put some clothes on. Now."

As Kevin turns to comply, I notice the sweater he's using to cover himself - the one Jacob gave me. The sight of it being used this way by another man sends a jolt through me.

I face Jacob, steeling myself for the confrontation. "What are you doing here, Jacob?"

His eyes bore into mine, a mix of hurt and fury swirling in their depths. "I came to talk to you, but clearly you're busy."

"You can't just show up unannounced," I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I didn't realize I needed an appointment to see my-" He cuts himself off, his jaw clenching.

"Your what, Jacob? Your ex-fiancée? The woman you tossed aside for Trixa?"

He flinches at my words. "That's not fair, Nyla. You don't understand-"

"What don't I understand? That you chose her over me? That you lied to me?"

Jacob takes a step closer, his voice lowering. "There's more to it than that. Why the fuck was he rubbing his dick on the sweater I gave to you?"

"You mean the one you gave me before cheating on me and asking another woman to marry you?" I let out a bitter laugh, the sound sharp in the tense air between us. "If everything between us was fake, Jacob, why are you acting like a jealous ex right now?"

Jacob's jaw clenches, his eyes flashing with hurt and anger. "It wasn't fake, Nyla. You know that."

"Do I?" I challenge, stepping closer to him. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks like you got exactly what you wanted. Control of the hospital, an engagement to Trixa. What more could the great Jacob Stone possibly need?"

He reaches for me, but I step back. "Nyla, please. Let me explain-"

"Explain what?" I snap, cutting him off. "How you tricked me into thinking we had a future? How you made me believe in us, only to turn around and betray me? I'm done, Jacob. I'm done being a pawn in your game."

Jacob's face falls, his voice dropping to a near-whisper. "It's not a game. I want to be with you."

I cross my arms, fixing him with a hard stare. "Really? Or is this about my grandfather's treatment? Is that why you're here, to make sure your precious deal stays intact?"

He flinches at my words, and I press on. "If that's the case, fine. I'll play along to save my grandfather. But I need to know where I stand. No more games, Jacob. No more lies."

The silence stretches between us, heavy with unspoken words and broken promises. I watch as Jacob struggles, his composure cracking under the weight of my accusations.

"Nyla," he starts, his voice rough with emotion. "I never meant to hurt you. Everything got so complicated-"

I stand my ground, drawing strength from the anger coursing through my veins. "I'm not your ragdoll anymore, Jacob. I've got my own connections, my own resources. You don't get to waltz in here and act like you own me."

Jacob's eyebrows shoot up, skepticism etched across his face. "Connections? What kind of connections could you possibly have?"

"Don't test me," I warn, my voice low and dangerous. "You'd be surprised what I've learned recently."

He scoffs, taking a step closer. "Is that so? Enlighten me, Nyla. What grand revelations have you stumbled upon?"

I clench my fists, resisting the urge to shove him. "You think you're the only one with power? The only one who knows things? Wake up, Jacob. There's a whole world out there that doesn't revolve around you and your precious hospital."

"Oh, please," he sneers. "You're bluffing. You've got nothing."

"Keep telling yourself that," I retort. "Maybe it'll help you sleep at night."

Jacob's jaw tightens, his eyes flashing with frustration. "You know what? I came here to ask you something, to bring you breakfast. But it looks like you're doing just fine on your own. I'll talk to you later."

He turns on his heel, storming towards the door. As he reaches for the handle, he pauses, glancing back at me. For a moment, I see a flicker of the man I fell in love with - vulnerable, uncertain. But then it's gone, replaced by cold indifference.

"Enjoy your morning, Nyla," he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm sure your new friend will keep you entertained."

The door slams behind him, leaving me alone in the sudden silence. I sink onto the couch, my legs shaky. The adrenaline from our confrontation fades, replaced by a confusing mix of emotions.

My heart aches, longing for the Jacob I thought I knew. But my mind rages against his arrogance, his assumptions. I'm torn between wanting to run after him and wanting to never see him again.

I press my palms against my eyes, willing the tears not to fall. This isn't how it was supposed to be. How did we end up here?
