Chapter 53
Nyla
I stare at Jacob, my mind racing. This man, with his piercing blue eyes and perfectly tailored suit, stands before me, vulnerable and raw. The antiseptic smell of the hospital fades away as I focus on him, my heart pounding.
"You love me?" I repeat, my voice barely above a whisper. "After everything?"
Jacob steps closer, his cologne mingling with the sterile air. "I do, Nyla. I know I messed up, but I can't lose you. You're the best thing that's happened to me."
I think back to my grandfather's words, his weathered face etched in my memory. "People make mistakes, buttercup," he'd said. "It's how they make it right that matters."
Taking a deep breath, I meet Jacob's gaze. "You hurt me, Jacob. I saw you with Trixa and it felt like… like my world just shattered."
"I know, and I'm sorry. God, I never wanted to fucking hurt you, but somehow I keep continuing to do so, but I swear to you, it meant nothing. You're the one I want, Nyla. Only you."
My fingers fidget with the hem of my scrubs. "I want to believe you, but how can I trust you?"
He reaches for my hand, his touch sending sparks through my skin. "Let me prove it to you. Every day, in every way. I'll do whatever it takes."
"Jacob," I start, my voice steadier than I feel, "I can’t keep giving you chance after chance. There comes a point that I begin to look like a fool. And I won’t stand for that. I can forgive you, but I won’t forget seeing you with Trixa,” I adjust my stance, and stand straight and look him in the eye.
“Trust is something that can be built, and broken in the blink of an eye. And once you’ve broken mine, it’s damn near impossible to get back.”
“Nyla I…”
I hold up my hand, stopping him.
“I said I forgive you Jacob, but consider this the last time.”
His shoulders sag with relief, and he reaches for my hand. I let him take it, his warm skin against mine sending a familiar tingle up my arm.
"Thank you, Nyla," he says, his voice thick with emotion. "I promise I'll make it up to you. Every day."
I nod, a small smile tugging at my lips. "You better. And Jacob? If anything like this happens again, we're done. For good."
He squeezes my hand. "It won't. You're the only woman I want, Nyla. The only one who matters."
The intensity in his gaze makes my breath catch. Before I can respond, he pulls me close, his lips crashing into mine. The kiss is desperate, passionate, filled with unspoken promises and apologies. I melt into it, my arms wrapping around his neck as his hands find my waist.
When we finally break apart, both breathless, I can't help but laugh. "We're still at the hospital, you know. My coworkers are going to talk."
Jacob grins, that cocky smile I've grown to love. "Let them talk. You are my fiance, after all. Mine."
I roll my eyes, but I'm smiling. "Possessive much?"
"Only with you," he says, stealing another quick kiss.
As we stand there, wrapped in each other's arms, I know we still have a long way to go. But for now, in this moment, it feels like we might just make it.
I see the look in his eyes.
I start to feel it too. The frenetic nature that maybe we need to do something to bury the hurt between us.
We need to solidify our embrace.
I need to make up for Jacob and Trixa kissing. As a woman, I need to mark to the world that this man is mine. My body is screaming for it.
“You feel it too, don’t you?” he asks me. “I can’t think of anything but being with you right now. Do you feel it too?”
I nod.
The tension is growing. The desire to have Jacob is intense.
"I'm going to use this consultation room to make you mine," Jacob says walking to the door.
The door clicks shut, and the sound echoes in the sterile room, a stark contrast to the pounding of my heart. Jacob turns to me, his eyes a stormy blue that matches the turmoil inside me.
I step toward him, my body moving on autopilot while my mind races. "I need to get fucked, Jacob. Right now. I need to forget everything—my grandfather, the hospital, all of it."
He closes the distance between us, his hands cupping my face. "I'll make you forget, Nyla. I'll make us both forget."
His lips crash into mine, the urgency in his kiss matching my own desperation. We're a tangle of limbs, our bodies seeking solace in each other. His hands roam over my scrubs, tugging at the fabric, and I fumble with the buttons of his shirt, our breaths mingling in hurried gasps.
He breaks the kiss just long enough to pull my top over my head, his gaze raking over me with a hunger that ignites a fire within my core. I reach for his belt, my fingers trembling with anticipation.
"Here," he says, lifting me onto the edge of the consultation table. The cool surface against my skin is a stark reminder of where we are, but I don't care. All that matters is this moment, this connection.
Our eyes lock as he steps between my thighs, the heat of his body enveloping me. I arch into him, seeking the friction that will chase away the chaos in my head.
"Jacob," I whisper, my voice laced with need.
"I've got you," he reassures me, his fingers tracing the line of my jaw before he claims my mouth once more.
He lifts my leg slightly, wrapping it around his waist as he eases into me. Eliciting a low moan that he has to stifle with his hand.
The sensation of him inside me is overwhelming, a wave of pleasure that washes away the worry and the fear. I hold onto him, my nails digging into his shoulders as we find our rhythm.
"You're so fucking beautiful," he murmurs against my neck, his breath hot against my skin.
I can't form words, so I show him with my body, matching his intensity stroke for stroke. The world around us fades away, leaving nothing but the two of us, wrapped up in a moment of pure ecstasy.
“Jacob, I’m close…” I mutter in to the collar of his oxford.
“Come for me baby, milk me for all I’m worth.”
His words are my undoing and I succumb to my climax, him following right behind me, our cries of release are muffled by the quiet hum of the hospital outside the door. We cling to each other, our bodies slick with sweat, our hearts pounding in sync.
For a few precious moments, I forget about everything else. There's no hospital, no illness, no family drama—just Jacob and the way he makes me feel alive.
He pulls me close, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead. "I meant what I said, Nyla. I love you."
I bury my face in his chest, inhaling the scent of him. "I love you too, Jacob. Even when it's hard, it's worth it."
I lean against Jacob, my body still tingling from our encounter. The consultation room feels like our own private oasis, the hum of the hospital a distant background noise. I run my fingers along his jaw, savoring the rough texture of his stubble.
"That was exactly what I needed," I murmur, a smile playing on my lips. "You really know how to make a girl forget her troubles."
Jacob chuckles, his chest rumbling against mine. "Happy to be of service. Though I think I might need a few more sessions to fully cure what ails you."
I pull back, meeting his gaze with a mischievous glint in my eye. "Is that your professional opinion, Dr. Stone?"
"Absolutely. I'd recommend at least one more thorough examination tonight." His hands slide down to my hips, pulling me closer.
"Well, if that's your medical advice, who am I to argue?" I lean in, my lips brushing his ear. "Why don't you come over tonight? I'll cook dinner, and then we can... pick up where we left off."
Jacob groans, his fingers digging into my skin. "You're killing me, Nyla. How am I supposed to focus on work now?"
I laugh, stepping out of his embrace. "Consider it motivation to finish early. My place, eight o'clock. Don't be late."
As I reach for the door handle, Jacob spins me around, pressing me against the cool surface. His kiss is searing, full of promise for later.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," he says, his voice husky.
I slip out of the room, my heart racing with anticipation for tonight. The rest of my shift stretches ahead, but for once, I don't mind. I've got something to look forward to, a bright spot in the whirlwind of my life.
